How much should it cost me to have the head gasket replaced on my Skoda Felicia?

I've been quoted 拢400 plus VAT, which seems not too bad. How does this compare with anyone else who has had this work done.|||I was talking to a mechanic the other day as my felicia is 'misting' a little from the exhaust when its warm %26amp; was told when you change the head gasket on them its worth getting the head checked to make sure it's not warped.

拢400 does sound like a lot of money but mechanics generally (in lincolnshire anyway) charge 拢30-40 per hour %26amp; a new gasket set is around 拢50 so that leaves 拢350 to strip engine, check/machine head %26amp; rebuild.

If it were mine I'd do it. OK everyone say the felicia isn't worth much but depends on year, condition %26amp; MOT. If your car is reliable where else for the same money are you going to get a car with the same tyre wear, tax, MOT etc?|||Don't know what year yours is, I've just got a new thermostat for mine a 1997 mk1 (I work in a motorfactors) %26amp; couldn't find one listed anywhere other than the main agent. I 'googled' felica thermostat %26amp; found Jorily skoda doing them, They're really helpfull with good postage rates %26amp; prompt service
