My 98 Skoda Felicia startd making a LOUD rumbling noise whenever it's rolling, louder if faster. What is it?

Took it to a garage, they said it's not wheel bearings/brake pads. Said it could be the transmission. They're not sure (sigh... )

There's also a faint smell of burnt rubber after it's been rolling for a little while. I'm too scared to drive it.

Appreciate your thoughts!|||breaks could be locked up,,,could be time to have the differential re-lubed,,ujoints,,axles or wheel barings|||what do u mean? tell me more!|||what exact is a sodka fellici? maybe you should try removing the break pads then driving it|||I think it is about to "Give up the Ghost"|||EXHAUST LEAK?
